Charles Edward Garton

Chuck Garton, 79, formerly of Ridgecrest, passed away after a short illness on June 2, 2019, with his family by his side.

Chuck was born and raised in Missouri before enlisting in the U.S. Navy as an aviation electronics technician, which eventually brought him and his family to Ridgecrest.

He served our country on active duty and made four cruises aboard ship, three on USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63) and one on USS Enterprise (CVN-65). He continued to serve in the reserves until he retired in 1992.

After leaving active service, he worked for many years as a civilian at the Warhead Test Branch, Naval Weapons Center, China Lake.

He retired in 1996, to travel in his 1978 GMC Motorhome and enjoy the retired life.

Chuck is survived by his son Robert Garton of Las Vegas, Nev., daughter and son-in-law Phyllys and Kevin Dowd of Fallon Nev., grandson Ryan Dowd of Camp Pendleton Calif., granddaughter Christina Dowd of Reno and many cousins, nieces & nephews.

His graveside service was on Friday, June 7, at the Churchill County Cemetery.
