HSUMD to host Guide Dog Puppy Raising Club

HSUMD to host Guide Dog Puppy Raising ClubKay Blachly of the Ridgecrest Puppy Raising Club of Guide Dogs for the Blind will speak at the Tuesday, June 18, meeting of the Historical Society of the Upper Mojave at 7 p.m. in the Historic USO Building.

Guide Dogs for the Blind is a nonprofit, charitable organization established in 1942. The organization provides a safe means of mobility for people who are blind and visually impaired.

“Puppy raisers are responsible for teaching future guide dog puppies good manners and providing socialization experiences during the first year of the pups’ lives,” said a spokesperson.

After a short animated film showing the training of one puppy, Blachly will speak about the work and history of the local group and the national Guide Dogs for the Blind.

She will also introduce a few of the members of the local club and their puppies-in-training.

HSUMD meets the third Tuesday of each month. Meetings are free and open to the public. For more information call the society at 760-375-8456.
