Irene Schmeisser

Irene SchmeisserIrene Schmeisser, a resident of Ridgecrest since 1971, died at home from cancer on May 28, 2019. She was 80.

She was a mother, nanny and great-grandmother. Irene was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Charles Schmeisser, in November 2012.

She is survived by her children, Richard Caine of Ridgecrest, Candyis Caine of Ridgecrest, Michael Caine of Ridgecrest, Stanley Caine of Tucson, Sandra Caine of Marana, Ariz., and Evelyn Parish of Sonora.

Born Jan. 11, 1939, to William and Mamie Hollis of Palestine, Ark., Irene was one of 13 children and the last surviving of her siblings. Born into a sharecropper family, Irene knew hard work. After she married Charles in 1969, the family moved from Sunland to Ridgecrest following the Sylmar earthquake of 1971.

She started a quilting business in the 1970s and was successful in creating great works of art that were enjoyed by many. She loved to quilt, talk with people, garden and fish with her husband Charles at Lake Isabella. She also really enjoyed going to the casino.

Services will be held Friday, June 14, at 10 a.m. at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Desert Memorial Park.
