‘Close Encounters’ auditions set

Master Mystery Productions and Ridge Writers will hold auditions for “Close Encounters of the Hairy Kind” Friday and Saturday, June 14-15, from 5-7 p.m. at Red Rock Books.

The collaborative production in honor of the legends of Bigfoot in the Sierra Nevada will be staged for Ridge Writers’ Sept. 27-28 “Weird Weekend” event.

Writer-director Monica Lorenz tells the story in a campfire conference setting, where a group of diverse people share their stories of Bigfoot sightings in the hopes of establishing a sanctuary for the species.

“But someone in their group has a far more dangerous idea,” said a spokesperson. “With deals being brokered, a mysterious wanted poster going around and something watching them from the shadows, stories around the campfire will get a lot more sinister than excuses for s’mores. After all, seeing is believing, right?”

Auditioners will be asked to read passages from the script. Ten acting roles and various technical positions are available. Actors must be 15 or older, and anyone younger than 18 must have parent/guardian permission and a parent/guardian present at rehearsals. Rehearsal dates will be arranged after auditions based on actor availability.
