The Ridgecrest Police Department continues its search for Jose Leal, a 33-year-old Ridgecrest resident suspected of attempted murder.

According to an RPD release, officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of West Wilson Avenue around 7:30 a.m. on Monday morning where they located a victim suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

According to the Sierra Sands Unified School District, Monroe Middle School was placed on a precautionary lockdown from 7:40-10:30 a.m. until police activity in the area cleared. Ridgecrest Charter School was also temporarily placed on lockdown.

The investigation led officers to suspect Leal, who hadn’t been located at press time.

RPD is seeking the public’s help in determining Leal’s location. Those with information are asked to call 760-499-5100.
