’Murray Family’ honors retiring principal

’Murray Family’ honors retiring principalMurray Middle School President Chris Hill and wife Tammy (left), on behalf of the Murray family, present an award to retiring principal Kristi Smith. “Mrs. Smith has devoted her life to education, in a way that went far beyond the responsibilities and requirements of a career path — teacher, educator, leader, mentor, example, confidant and friend,” said Hill. “All of these words can easily be associated with who Kirsti is and what she’s been to so many over the years.” Her accomplishments include leading Murray to be recognized as a Distinguished School in 2003 and a Gold Ribbon School in 2015. She helped implement the Mustang Academy, a student intervention program where she and others helped students make up missing work at lunch. She oversaw the long and involved process of moving Murray to its present location. The plaque given to Smith reads, “Dedicated to Kirsti Smith, Principal 1999-2019. A truly great principal is hard to find, difficult to part with, and impossible to forget.” — Courtesy photo
