Caltrans announces Towne Pass  curve realignment projectThe California Department of Transportation, Bishop substation, announced that reconstruction for the Towne Pass Curve Realignment Project has begun. The half-mile project on State Route 190 will run east of Towne Pass in Death Valley National Park.

“The project should enhance safety and reduce accidents by realigning curves and constructing shoulders,” said a Caltrans official.

Meyers Earthwork, a Redding-based contractor, was awarded the $1.9-million project.

Travelers should anticipate a delay of up to 20 minutes during construction Monday through Thursday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. The project should be finished by the end of May.

Construction is subject to change caused by traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/or materials- and construction-related issues.
