Charles R. ‘Pop’ Owen

Charles R. ‘Pop’ OwenCharles Richard “Pop” Owen passed away Feb. 23, 2019, due to complications of recent illness. He was 92.

Pop was born Dec. 26, 1926, to Henry and Cora Owen in Cravens, Ark. He was the youngest of seven children. He spent his childhood in Arkansas. He served in the Army in WWII and was honorably discharged as a disabled Army veteran in 1947. He later met and married Delois, his wife of 54 years and started a family.

The family moved to Ridgecrest in 1966 when he took a job at the Naval Weapons Center China Lake as a refrigeration, air-conditioning and heating mechanic. Pop was an honest and hard-working man who left that legacy to his family.

Pop was preceded in death by his wife Delois Owen, his daughter Darlis Moorehead and his son-in-law Jeffrey Lehman. He is survived by his children Ginger Lehman, Richard Owen (Diana), Lori Truitt (Tod and his son Todd Owen; his grandchildren Gina Skaggs (Jay), Michelle Vickers (Kaine), Michael Lehman (Megan), Cory Moorehead (Tara), Josh Moorehead, Adrianne Martin (Justin), Kyle Owen (Debbie), Craig Owen (Nicki), Ryan Truitt, Briane Gaston (David) and Mathew Truitt (Kaitlin); his great-grandchildren Cody Scaggs (Corrina), Bobbi and Ellis Vickers, Andrew Moorehead, Emma Moorehead, Brody, Koby and Kelly Hill, Harper Owen, Hailey and Kensley Owen, Maddox Heisa and Emmitt Gaston; and his great-great-grandchildren Charolette, Collin and Caroline Scaggs.

There will be a chance for you to pay your respects Friday, March 8, at the H.K. Holland Memorial Chapel from 5-8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 9, at 1 p.m. at Desert Memorial Park. A Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the East Wing of the All Faith Chapel for those who have access to the base.
