To the Editor: Challenges headline

The Friday, Feb. 22, 2019, issue of your publication had a headline proclaiming that the City Council had passed a park tax. This is not true; they voted to establish a park assessment district, which, if OKd by the public, will have an assessment fee.

I agree that essentially the end result is the same. However, had it been a tax, they would have had to take a different approach. Either the author or the editor should have caught this error and corrected it.

Last week’s headline read “City moves forward with park tax.” If landowners approve the assessment, the fee will be added to property tax bills. — Ed.
