Elks donate AED to Sierra Sands

The Ridgecrest Elks Lodge No. 1913 recently donated $500 to the Sierra Sands Unified School District, which sponsored the purchase of an automated external defibrillator.

“The monetary donation from the Elks Lodge will provide another life-saving device to the district,” said a Sierra Sands spokesperson. “The district currently has three AEDs, which are portable medical devices that are used to analyze and shock the heart in case of sudden cardiac arrest.”

According to the SCA Foundation, nearly 300,000 cases of sudden cardiac arrest occur each year in the United States.

“While SCA mostly occurs in adults, more than 3,000 young people die annually due to SCA,” said a spokesperson.
