Pinto scholarship available

The Desert Community Orchestra Association will once again administer the Peter Pinto Memorial Music Scholarship for students pursuing continued education in instrumental or vocal music.

Dr. Pinto was a pediatrician at Drummond Medical Group for many years, as well as a longtime member and supporter of the orchestra. To be eligible, an applicant must be a high school graduate (including the Class of 2019) younger than age 22.

The selection process consists of completion of an application, an audition and an interview. The deadline for application is Wednesday, Feb. 20. Auditions and interviews will be held Monday, March 4, at Ridgecrest Presby-terian Church from 5-7:30 p.m.

Applications are available from Burroughs High School Band, Orchestra, Choir and Scholarship Office, Cerro Coso Financial Aid Office, Mesquite High School Office, and Immanuel Christian School Office, or through the High Desert Music Teachers Association members.

Friedman named to Dean’s List

Army and Navy Academy of Carlsbad, Calif., announced that Adam Friedman of Ridgecrest has been named to the 2018-19 Dean’s List.

Qualifying students must maintain a grade-point average of 3.8 or higher while excelling in a curriculum that includes rigorous academics as well as leadership training.

“I am incredibly proud of the students who made the Dean’s List,” said Ethan Segovia, Dean of Academics, “They have worked hard, and it shows.”


King makes President’s List

Benjamin W. King of Ridgecrest was named to the University of Alabama President’s List for the fall semester.

Students carrying a full-time course load must achieve an academic record of 4.0 to earn the distinction.

King is the son of Stewart and Shawn King of Ridgecrest.
