MLK ‘Day of Unity’ celebration is Jan. 21

MLK ‘Day of Unity’ celebration is Jan. 21This year’s “Day of Unity” observance, in celebration of the life and contributions of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., will be held Monday, Jan. 21, at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Community Church.

“In this world, in our country and in our community, there are all types of tensions socially, economically, racially and politically.

“These divides continue to deteriorate our relationships as humans,” reads a statement signed by the Ridgecrest MLK Committee, a diverse, interdenominational group of citizens that comes together each year to host the observance.

“Be part of supporting unity in our community by joining us for a celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream in the Indian Wells Valley,” continues the statement.

“Dr. King said, ‘The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.’

“Where do you stand? We agree that we can’t change the world, but together we can change Ridgecrest one relationship at a time.

“We would like to invite you to take a stand with us during the annual Martin Luther King program, where we take the opportunity to celebrate what unites us and encourage unity in our community.”

The public is invited to attend.
