The Ridgecrest Musical Enrichment Society will host auditions for “Alice in Wonderland Jr.” tonight, Jan. 4, from 4-8 p.m. at Mesquite High School.

Director Marla Cosner described the musical as a fast-paced take on Lewis Carroll’s classic tale. The music features updated songs from Disney’s animated version of the story.

“The ever-curious Alice’s journey begins innocently enough as she chases the White Rabbit,” said Cosner. “Her adventures become increasingly more strange as she races the Dodo Bird, gets tied up with Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum, raps with a bubble-blowing Caterpillar and beats the Queen of Hearts at her own game!”

She said that roles are available for ages 8-15 (with some concessions made at the directing panel’s discretion).

Youngsters should come prepared to sing up to two minutes of a song (no background vocals allowed on accompaniment). Call-backs are scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 5, from 9:30 a.m. to noon.

A detailed rehearsal schedule will be posted at the audition site. The first rehearsal will be a mandatory parent meeting on Monday, Jan. 7. Performances are March 8, 9, 15 and 16.
