Ridgecrest police officers arrested two suspects for driving under the influence and illegal street racing last weekend after responding to a single-vehicle collision in the 500 block of Silver Ridge Street.

According to an RPD press release, officers responded to the call around 7:20 p.m. on Dec. 29 when they discovered a red pickup truck that had left the roadway, struck a stop sign and come to rest in the front yard of a residence.

Officers reportedly interviewed multiple witnesses on the scene who said the driver of the truck was “street racing” with another vehicle.

With help from the witnesses, officers located the second vehicle parked several blocks from the collision.

During the investigation, officers determined that both suspects, Danny Olvera, 23, and Jorge Estudillo, 20, were intoxicated and racing their vehicles illegally. Both were placed under arrest and booked at the Ridgecrest Police Department. Official charges and court information were not available at press time.
