Fire chief resumes open burn permits

Following a temporary restriction of open burning — prohibited during a heightened increase in the risk of uncontrolled fire — the Kern County Fire Department announced that open burning has been reinstated.

“This decision was made after a thorough review of multiple factors including, but not limited to, moisture accumulation, long-range weather forecasts, and fuel moisture levels,” said a statement from Fire Chief Brian Marshall. “All persons burning hazard-reduction fuels must complete the appropriate permit in advance.”

Burn permits are valid only on “Permissive Burn Days” as determined by the APCD. Station captains, at their discretion, may suspend burn operations in their districts. Violations of any burn permit terms are violations of state law
