A victim of an attempted burglary reportedly contacted the Ridgecrest Police Department on Sunday, Dec. 9, an action that led to one arrest.

According to an RPD release, the reported victim said that the suspect, later identified as Joshua Lamar Jeter, 42, had stolen his keys and attempted unsuccessfully to enter his residence through the front door.

Officer Ramon Farias reported that he contacted Jeter the next day in an alley between the 700 blocks of North Balsam Street and North China Lake Boulevard where Jeter was arrested and searched. Farias located the keys in question as well as a piece of ammunition.

Jeter was arrested and booked in the Kern County Jail, Mojave, where he’s being held on $12,500 bail. Jeter is facing a felony charge of possession of ammunition by a felon and a misdemeanor for receiving known stolen property.

Jeter’s pre-preliminary hearing and bail review are scheduled for Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. in Ridgecrest.

His preliminary hearing will be on Thursday, 10:30 a.m. in Ridgecrest.
