Thomas W. George

Thomas W. George, EdD, the only child of Francis W. and Rosemary H. George, died of cancer on Oct. 18, 2018, in Knoxville, Tenn.

Thomas was born March 31, 1942, in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in China Lake, Calif., from 1946 until graduation from Burroughs High School, Class of 1960. He was married 52 years to Janice Myers George.

Following graduation from Burroughs, Dr. George graduated from Loyola University, Los Angeles (B.S. and MEd) and earned his terminal degree (EdD) from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 1973. He served as a professor and associate dean of the College of Education for 39 years, retiring in 2012 with emeritus rank.

Surviving him are his children Courtney George (Wade Milam) of Knoxville, Tenn., and Ryan George (April) of Alamo, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

First cousins still living in the Ridgecrest area include Barbara Mussler Etoch, Nancy Mussler Hoyem, Rosemary Gatchell Galvin and Ronald Gatchell.

Following a funeral Mass at Saint John XXIII, Knoxville, on Oct. 22, he was laid to rest in Greenwood Cemetery, Knoxville.
