Sierra Academy of Dance will once again present “The Nativity” Friday and Saturday, Dec. 21-22, at 6:30 p.m. in the Parker Performing Arts Center at Burroughs High School.

SAD celebrates the First Christmas through classical ballet and contemporary dance, set to classical and traditional Christmas music and performed by 90 students age 3 through adult.

The ballet opens with Gabriel and the angels in heaven, and follows Joseph, Mary, angels, guardian angels, King Herod, shepherds, the innkeeper, the three wise men and Roman guards, through the First Christmas and the presentation of Baby Jesus to the audience.

Studio director Caté DeMin noted that two of this year’s principal dancers first came to the academy 12 years ago as best friends.

“Brianna Murphy portrays Mary, while Julie Koch dances Gabriel,” said DeMin. “As with all of my young dancers, it has been rewarding to see their growth and development into strong, dependable, graceful dancers.”

Doors open for seating at 6 p.m. Tickets are available for $10 each at Red Rock Books or $12 each at the door. Children younger than 5 will be admitted for free.
