BHS students collect winter coats for locals in needThe Burroughs High School’s Friends of Rachel executive board members Maheen Ahmad, Justin Hernandez, Elsie Huber, Sidra Javaid and Rachel Rosal, flanked by advisors Shari Rosenberg (left) and Dora Barnes are pictured with winter coats and other cold-weather articles collected for the local Salvation Army. Rosenberg said the club will continue to collect donations through Dec. 14, and anybody can drop off items for the club at the BHS front office. The items are distributed directly to families in need rather than going to the thrift store. “Local Santas have reported that young children frequently ask for a jacket for their siblings for Christmas,” said Rosenberg. “Sad, but what a gesture! The Salvation Army says there are a lot of individuals in need that the community is not aware of.” — Photo by Laura Austin
