Rodger D. Keller

Rodger D. Keller of Ridgecrest passed away peacefully at the home of his son in Rosamond, Calif., on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018, surrounded by his family.

Memorial services will be held to celebrate the life of Rodger on Saturday, Dec. 1, at 1 p.m. at Lancaster Baptist Church, 4020 E. Lancaster Blvd., Lancaster, Calif., with a reception following the service.

Rodger was born in Scottsbluff, Neb., on Feb. 11, 1935, the third of four children to Peter Keller Jr. and Katherine Becker. He joined the Navy at the age of 17 on Oct. 9, 1952. Originally wanting to be a mess cook on a carrier, he was enlightened to the joys of carrier life as an airman, flying as an aircrewman in seaplanes.

Having been stationed in San Diego, Georgia, Hawaii and Rhode Island, he finally reached Naval Air Station Lemoore in July 1973 and spent his last nine years of service there. He retired on Oct. 18, 1982.

He met the love of his life, Katherine M. Towns of Milledgeville, Georgia, in 1957 and three months later they married on Aug. 18, 1957. They had three children.

Rodger is survived by his wife of 61 years, Katherine Keller; his son Michael and Ellen Keller of Kingsburg, Calif.; his son Stephen and Pam Keller of Rosamond; his daughter Pamela and Rick Snarr of Fairfield, Calif.; his sister Marian Heilbrun of Gering, Neb.; his eight grandchildren and his 15 great-grandchildren.
