Kristin D. Henden

Kristin D. HendenKristin Denise Henden was born April 24, 1966, in Ridgecrest, Calif.. Kristin fought a courageous battle with cancer for several months, and passed away Nov. 5, 2018, in Santa Maria.

Kristin is survived by so many that loved her and that she touched; her extended family of parents, siblings, in-laws, aunts and uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews, friends and her puppies. She loved them all. As you walk into their home, it is clear what is important to Kristin and Tony — family, friends and puppies.

Kristin was not interested in dwelling on the disease or her death. She wanted to focus on celebrating life and how she lived her life. “Celebrate” could be Kristin’s motto — she did not dwell on the negative, it was a waste of time. She chose to make each day the best it could be and to live it on her terms.

Even as a kid growing up in Ridgecrest, Kristin had a way of making friends wherever she went, and being a friend for anyone needing to talk, vent, cry, or laugh. She was always compassionate, sincere, and most definitely honest. Even if the truth stung a bit, she would give you a straight answer and usually with humor, and that is what made her such a good friend.

Kristin believed in ideals and supported organizations that championed acceptance and equality of all people and caring for one another, benefitted the local community, and rescued puppies.

Kristin loved traveling and exploring new places, old places, odd places that no one would think about going to and sharing the adventure with those she cared about. She would take the detour, just to see where it led.

Kristin lit up your day with her feisty humor, which she dispensed often. She is a loving, fierce, beautiful, honest, and compassionate example of how to celebrate your life. At Kristin’s request, and to honor her, in lieu of flowers, cards, etc. please donate to the Mission Hope Cancer Center at missionhopecancercenter.com/contact-us.html or Marley’s Mutts at marleysmutts.org/donate.

A celebration of family and friends will be held Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. at the Ridgecrest Elk’s Lodge.
