To the Editor: College pres says thanks

Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Friday evening, as you know, was Cerro Coso Community College’s Astronomical Barbecue and Star Party fundraiser. And what an evening it was! We hosted one of the largest crowds ever, more than 400, for this important educational family friendly event.

The success of this important fundraiser for the College is shared by many, and we’d like to take a moment now to thank them all. Special thanks to our Galactic Presenting Sponsors: Coso Operating Company, CSI Fulmer, and Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. Copernicus Level Sponsors: Searles Valley Minerals, and the DLR Group. Kepler Level Sponsors: Tip Top Arborists, Baskin Mechanical Engineers, GonLED, Tel-Tec Security Systems, Inc., and Sylvia Sotomayor. President’s Circle Sponsors – Mather Brothers Inc., GKK Works, Dr. Anthony and Cynthia Damiano, and Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union. We are in awe of your generosity and support of education, the community, and the college.

This occasion would not be possible without the expertise and assistance of the China Lake Astronomical Society, Cerro Coso professors and students, and the Maturango Museum with their educational planetarium shows and volunteers.

The generous giving of all the individuals and businesses who donated raffle prizes adds the success of the affair: Anthony and Cynthia Damiano, Baxendale’s, Casey’s Steaks and Barbecue, China Lake Museum, Coso Operating Company, CSI Fulmer, Desert Dog Pet Store, Dorrell Family, Floyd and Kay Lloyd, Jewelry to Go, Maturango Museum, Pita Fresh Mediterranean Grill, Pizza Factory, Ridgecrest Cinemas, Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, Romancing the West, and S&M Antiques, Coins and Collectibles. Thank you.

I also want to extend a sincere thanks the Cerro Coso employees, volunteers, students, and Foundation board members, who helped before, during, and after the event. It has been said of a sleek racing ships, “although she be small, she be fierce.” Well, we have the fiercest group of dedicated people working to make this experience an astronomical success for the entire community. It is a blessings to be surrounded by such respect, passion, and love for education and the community. Thank you.

Jill Board, president
