International Day offers global experience

“You might say the world will be coming to Ridgecrest,” said Matthew Alexander, one of the organizers for the third annual International Community Day celebration, scheduled for tonight, Sept. 14, at 5:30 p.m. in the Kerr McGee Center.

“You won’t even need a ticket to meet and engage with folks from the Philippines, Mexico, China, Vietnam, Russia, Taiwan, Thailand, India, Ukraine, South Korea, United Kingdom, Vietnam, Columbia, Japan, and Hawaii,” said Alexander.

Representatives wearing traditional attire of their cultures will participate in a parade of nations, led by ICD Queen Tia Roberts. The celebration will also feature music, dance, cultural displays and cuisines of a multitude of heritages.

“The primary purpose of the event is to offer an atmosphere where everyone will enjoy sharing their culture and heritage thereby making the Indian Wells Valley even more special than it already is,” said Alexander.

Music throughout the night will be provided by the Big Band Express. So far, participating restaurants are China Express, China Lake Buffet/Aloha Grill, Homestead Family Restaurant, Bangkok House, and Bebe’s Lumpia.

Attendees are encouraged to contribute a dish to the potluck.

Anyone interested in performing should call Yolanda Alexander at 661-330-3960.
