‘Marriage of Figaro’ opens Sept. 1

‘Marriage of Figaro’ opens Sept. 1“The Marriage of Figaro” will be presented Saturday, Sept. 1, at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 2, at 3 p.m. at the Ridgecrest United Methodist Church.

According to director and Ridgecrest Opera Guild founder David Hodgson, the production is the culmination of training for ingenue Britney Brown and “a kind of farewell to her as she departs for UCLA.”

Hodgson said that this performance will also be the first of what he hopes will be many “Ridgecrest Opera Workshop” productions, which also feature the talents of other students in his studio.

“Marriage of Figaro” is a comedic opera depicting the chaotic events on the wedding day of Figaro — who will be played by Kevin La Brie — and Susanna — portrayed by Brown.

Hodgson said he is also excited by the string quartet, assembled by virtuoso violinst Erica MacArthur, which will accompany the singers. Joining MacArthur will be violinist Anna Schaad Montgomery, violist Clayton Burns and cellist Fran Rogers.

Admission is a suggested donation of $10 per person. For addiational information visit www.ridgecrestoperaworkshop.com.
