Ridgecrest Police officers arrested one suspect on animal cruelty charges after an anonymous pet owner provided surveillance video of the suspect, later identified as Jesse Ramon Jr., 18, “striking a dog several times and displaying obvious signs of animal cruelty” according to the RPD press release.

According to the police, the pet owner brought the video to the Ridgecrest Animal Shelter just after noon on Friday, Aug. 17. The video, which has surfaced on social media, shows Ramon lifting the dog off the ground by its collar and repeatedly striking it with an object and rubbing feces in its face.

Ramon reportedly responded to requests for questioning and visited the department that day. After a brief investigation, Ramon was arrested and transported to the Central Receiving Facility in Bakersfield.

Ramon faces one felony charge of cruelty to an animal and is being held with $10,000 bail. His pre-preliminary hearing and bail review are set for 10:30 a.m. Aug. 28 in Ridgecrest.
