David Allen Mitchell

David Allen “Dave” Mitchell passed away suddenly from an apparent heart attack on July 27, 2018.

He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on July 11, 1945. His family moved to California in 1954 and settled in the city of Woodland Hills. He graduated from William Howard Taft High School where he played basketball, football and track. His love for football led him to coach high school football until injuries led him on a different career path.

Continuing his education as a social worker, Dave became a counselor. His dedication to giving help and support for senior issues and specifically Alzheimer’s and dementia patients and their families, helped countless families deal with grave issues their loved ones were going through. In 2002 Dave was appointed the executive director for the Burbank Adult Day Care Center where he continued his commitment to all senior issues.

His love for the desert led him to spend many weekends at the Ridgecrest home of his mother Rosemary Ashinhurst and stepfather Al Ashinhurst’s home. Retiring in 2011, Dave made Ridgecrest his permanent home. His empathy for animals and his passion for all things USC football were well-known by his many friends.

Dave is survived by his sister, DiAnn Langer-Levine, her husband Dan Levine and his beloved niece Kirsten Coe.

A celebration of his life will be held the first week of September at his home in Ridgecrest.
