Officers of the Ridgecrest Police Department discovered more than $3,000 worth of stolen property on Tuesday, Aug. 14, after tracking an air-conditioning unit reportedly stolen from a home in the 400 block of West Upjohn Avenue.

The investigation led Officer Ramon Farias to a home in the 400 block of South Helena Street where, in addition to the AC unit, he located a stolen generator and large contractor-sized tool box with more than $1,000 worth of tools.

While Farias and Officer John Bartlett processed evidence, Sgt. Mike Atkins located and arrested Ridgecrest resident Danny Avalos, 18, as the primary suspect of the thefts.

Avalos was booked on felony charges of grand theft, possession of stolen property, vandalism and burglary and one misdemeanor charge of petty theft. His bail is set at $50,000, and he has a bail review and pre-preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 21 in Ridgecrest.
