DESERT VALLEYS FEDERAL CREDIT UNION — Desert Valleys, in partnership with Ridgecrest Cinemas, held its inaugural “Member Movie Night” on July 31, with more than 500 members turning out to enjoy prizes, giveaways and a $2.50 admission to all movies.

“We hope to repeat this event next year,” said CEO Eric Bruen. “Supporting our local cinemas is important in keeping family entertainment a part of our community. And besides that, who doesn’t like a cheap night out at the movies?”

Desert Valleys also unveiled its new “mobile branch,” which will soon be making appearances at local events, including outreach to communities along the Eastern Sierra Corridor.

“We are excited to return banking services to communities like Trona as well as extend the Desert Valleys brand to serve our members in the Lone Pine and Bishop communities,” said Bruen.

Desert Valleys is calling the truck “Big Red” and its companion little brother “Roadrunner.” Bruen said the roll-out could take up to 18 months to ensure that schedules and staffing logistics are resolved.

“Big Red” will make its next appearance at the Sept. 15 showing of “Wonder,” the next Movie in the Park event hosted by the city in Freedom Park.

Desert Valleys also sponsors Bite of Reality, Santa Day and Duel in Desert.

“Each of these events reflect the credit union’s commitment to promoting local activities and local businesses,” said Bruen.

In keeping with the DV tradition of raising money, the credit union raffled off three high prizes to raise an additional $285 for the 2019 fireworks fund.

“We were all disappointed that the fireworks were gone in 2018, but I believe there is a hardworking set of individuals dedicated to bringing it back and we want to show them the support is there.”

Desert Valleys and Ridgecrest Cinemas each also donated an additional $215 to bring the total to $715 for the night.
