Marler earns scholarship

Marler earns scholarshipSydney Marler of Ridgecrest, a former student of Burroughs High School and a 2018 graduate of Phillips Academy in Andover, Mass., is a recipient of a $2,000 scholarship through the Military Children Program.

To qualify for the scholarship, Sydney had to demonstrate academic excellence, along with participation in school and community activities that allow her to demonstrate leadership qualities. She also wrote an essay on the development of the internet and how it has changed societies and families.

Sydney’s school activities include the Research Club, Science Olympiad, Astronomy Club, track and field and the Robotics Club.

She plans to attend Stanford University in the fall.

Sydney is the daughter of Nathaniel Marler and Jennie Norris of Ridgecrest.

The scholarship was awarded through Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake and funded by Proctor & Gamble.
