James Richard Grazer

James Richard GrazerJames Richard Grazer, “Rick” and “Papaw” age 64, went home to be with our Lord Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the Ellison John Transitional Care Center in Lancaster, Calif. He was suffering from lung cancer.

Rick was born Oct. 26, 1953, to Vern T. Grazer and Catherin McGlothin in Shelby County, Memphis, Tenn. He grew up in Memphis, met his wife Pamela, “Pam” at 15 and 16 years old at Kingsbury High School in ninth-grade English.

At the age of 17, Rick volunteered for the Marine Corps and went to Vietnam. He became a sergeant by the age of 19 and married Pam on Feb. 5, 1973. He served four years in the Marine Corps, then was honorably discharged and joined the Navy for two years, with honorable discharge as well. By 1979 they had their three children Kristie, Jason, and Tina. He then became a crash crew federal fireman at the Millington, Tenn., naval base. In 1983 he transferred out here to China Lake Fire Station No. 1.

“Papaw” loved playing pool, cribbage, ping pong, card games and was just a big kid at heart. He loved to listen to his “Oldies but Goodies” and watch his Old Western shows. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He put a smile on everybody’s face with his unique sense of humor — he loved to make people laugh. He had the most wonderful heart and soul, was the best husband, father and Papaw and will be loved and missed by so many.

He is remembered and dearly loved and missed by his wife of 45 years Pamela Grazer; children Kristie E. Waite, Jason A. Grazer and Tina N. Grazer; grandchildren Jesse D. Patterson (Boo Boo), Dennis S. Patterson (Taz Man) and Tabitha N. Griffiths (Flat foot); and great-grandchildren Nikolai, Charlie and Ezra Patterson.

A graveside memorial service for Rick (Papaw) was held at the Desert Memorial Park Cemetery on July 28.
