Auditions set for latest mystery

Family-friendly show seeks cast members of all ages

Auditions set for latest mysteryMaster Mystery Productions and Ridgecrest Community Theatre Troupe are partnering to hold auditions for a new interactive play “Mutiny on the Sea Witch,” a pirate’s treasure mystery set in the time of swashbuckling buccaneers.

Auditions will be held Friday and Saturday, Aug. 10-11, from 5-7 p.m. at Red Rock Books.

“A journey into a child’s boundless imagination soon transforms into a voyage of mystery, mutiny and buried treasure,” said Director-Playwright Daniel Stallings. “Precocious and creative Suzie gathers her friends together for a game of pirates that whisks all of us to the shores of Charleston, South Carolina, in the 1700s.

“Suzie tells a tale of her ancestor, the fearsome female pirate captain Cutlass Kate, the saber-swishing scourge of the colonies and the Caribbean. But it’s not all sword fights and talking parrots in this yarn.”

Auditions are open to all ages, and no theatrical experience is necessary. Actors will be asked to read passages from the script.

Producers are looking for children ages 7-10 to play Suzie and her friends in the opening scene, and actors 13 and older to play the crew of pirates.

Anyone younger than 18 will be required to have parent or guardian permission and attendance at auditions, rehearsals, and performances. With the exception of Suzie, Cutlass Kate, Moll Flint and Polly the Parrot, the rest of the pirates can be played by any gender.

“Mutiny on the Sea Witch” is a family-friendly mystery with performances the first two weekends in November.

The rehearsal schedule will be arranged after auditions based on actor availability.
