John M. Schorr

John M. SchorrJohn Michael Schorr passed away in Kernville on July 19, 2018.

He was born Oct. 12, 1938, in Peoria, Ill. A resident of Ridgecrest, he graduated from Burroughs High School in 1957, served in the U.S. Navy (Seabees) from 1958-62, graduated from Cerro Coso Community College in 1975 and retired from NAWCWD in September 1993.

In his retirement years he worked at Chief’s Auto Parts (AutoZone), drove the armored car for Brinks, Inc. for nine years, and served as a security guard for Ridgecrest Regional Hospital. He also was the head Karate Shotokan instructor of the Indian Wells Valley Karate Club for more than 50 years.

John is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janice M. Schorr; son, Brian M. Schorr (Heidi) of Pahrump, Nev.; daughter, Connie S. Conway (Gary) of Birchwood, Tenn.; stepsons, Kenneth W. Reed (Kim), and Michael S. Reed and brother, Bill Schorr (Terri) and niece Alexxis Schorr of Ridgecrest. He had nine grandchildren, Dr. Bobbie Jean Schorr-Way (Steven), John M. Schorr (Michelle), Michael Dewhurst, Michele Williamson, Joe Dewhurst, Sara Berry (Scott), Jamie Kennedy (Jack), Elyse Reed and Amber Reed. His great-grandchildren were Cheyenne, Vanessa and Lindsey; Titus and Trinity; Alyssa, Haley and Ethan; Jessica, Brandy and Natalie; Kreana, Jaden, Tyler and Jacob; Curtis, Taylor and Cole; and Joel and Ellie.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ginger Schorr, parents George and Betty Schorr, sister Milree Storruste (Chet), son Randy C. Schorr and grandson Randy C. Schorr.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 28, at 1 p.m. at Ridgecrest Church of the Nazarene. Burial will be at Desert Memorial Park.
