Marlys L. Etherington

Marlys L. EtheringtonMarlys Lorraine Etherington died on July 13, 2018. She was 97.

She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in Algona, Iowa, to Harley and Grace Adams. She grew up in Iowa and married Robert Etherington in January 1941. They had two children, Howard and Catherine, prior to their move to Nevada in 1952.

In 1956 they moved to Ridgecrest. Marlys and Bob loved to square dance and round dance and were longtime members of the Cactus Squares and Jim Dandies. She loved camping, hiking and fishing the creeks and lakes of the Sierra. She was an avid gardner. Having grown up on a farm she would always have a small vegetable garden and many flowers as well. She would rather be outside digging in the dirt than cooped up inside.

She is survived by her children, Howard Etherington (Jospehine) and Catherine Segler; grandchildren, Deborah Harper (David), Tammy Thoms (Mike) and James Etherington; great-grandchildren, Michael Harper, Faith Thoms and Hope Thoms; and great-great-grandchildren Lyrik Harper, Koda Harper, Kady Harper, Alethea Harper and Loki Harper.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Etherington, her parents, brother Bud Adams, sisters Leatha Redemske and Lois Dillon, numerous nieces and nephews and son-in-law, Jerry Segler.

She will be missed by all, but leaves us with a lifetime of special memories.
