Movie Magic continues at USO

In the Audience

The Historical Society of the Upper Mojave Desert’s Classic Movie Night film series “Summer of Movie Magic” continues to present family-friendly films, alternating with Universal Pictures’ terror classics, every Wednesday at 7 p.m. through Aug. 8.

This wide variety of features — appealing to every member of the family — is generously sponsored by the following outstanding businesses and organizations: Baxendale’s, Cordell Construction Co., Cosner-Neipp Computing, Center Pharmacy service of Ridgecrest Regional Hospital, Jack and Dana Lyons – Best Realty (they donated our spiffy new popcorn machine!), the Maturango Museum, the Museum of Western Film History- Lone Pine, Red Rock Books, Ridgecrest Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (RACVB), Ridgecrest Cinemas, Ridge Writers, Roaming Dog Kitchen, Romancing the West, S & M Coins and Collectibles, Tender Cuts Meats and Warren’s Automotive. These folks’ participation assures us of continued licensing for a year’s exhibition of our films.

Viewers still have three chances left to catch one of the remaining classic movie screenings. On July 25 Lon Chaney Jr. transforms into a deadly werewolf during a full moon, while Bela Lugosi and Claude Rains share the screen with him. A modern science fiction classic will be screened on Aug. 1, and a 1950s thriller will close the series on Aug. 8.

The thrifty Snack Bar greets hungry movie lovers with a wide variety of taste-tempting treats including the quarter-pound all-beef Jumbo “Crumville” Hot Dog plate, the popular “Coso Queso” grilled cheese sandwich (both made with ingredients from Tender Cuts, one of our sponsors) topped off with ice-cold handcrafted soda pop from the Indian Wells Brewing Company, frosty ice cream (free for the kids) and root beer floats. Famous-label candies, chips and fresh hot popcorn round out the menu. Patrons are permitted to take their snacks into the auditorium and enjoy them at their tables.

A list of film titles and our sponsors is available in the lobby or give us a call at 760-375-8456.

See you at the movies … all summer long!
