For those looking for a patriotic way to kick off the 4th of July, producers of “Our Country ’Tis of Thee” invite them to attend the annual Independence Day pageant at Wednesday, July 4, at 10 a.m. at the James Monroe Middle School gymnasium. Doors open for seating at 9 a.m., and admission is free.

The musical revue, written by Ruth Roberts and William Katz, presents the history of America through song, dance, and narration. It was performed yearly in Ridgecrest between 1977 and 2002. After a 10-year hiatus, the tradition was revived in 2013 with a new generation of children taking part. This year’s performance features 56 children between the ages of 5 and 12, many returning participants and many new this year.

The community volunteers leading the production include Kimm Washburn as the music director, Penny Belt as the pianist and band coordinator, Kristi Staheli and Tami Hill as costume coordinators, Melanie Litton as dance coordinator and Chris Hill as the narrator, “Uncle Sam.”
