First Baptist Church welcomes new pastor

First Baptist Church welcomes new pastorFirst Baptist Church of Ridgecrest welcomed new pastor Mathew Pope and his wife, Victoria, to the church this month.

A church spokesperson described Pope as a vibrant pastor who is completely committed to Jesus and who believes in providing Christian love and devotion to all people. “He believes that church should be family fun. He has the gift to support and encourage everyone to live his or her life fully.”

“I proclaim myself to be very old fashioned because I live relevant to an older generation,” said Pope. “I am an avid classic country music fan, enjoy spending time outdoors and hiking, playing guitar, watching movies, horse riding, fishing and reading.

“Together, my wife and I enjoy spending an evening out on the town to eat dinner, fellowship with friends, sing together and go to the movies. These activities help us to enjoy the positive things in life and give us opportunities to grow in our spirituality.

“With our music commonality, we enjoy performing together on stage from worship ensembles to our favorite secular artists. We enjoy serving others through these talents and use them to draw others for building positive relationships.”

He holds a bachelor of science in Christian ministries, with a minor in behavioral health. He is currently working on his master’s degree in divinity and hopes to further continue his education by pursuing a Ph.D. in pastoral counseling.

Victoria (Tori) was born in Apple Valley and raised in the high desert. She went to Biola University and graduated with her bachelor’s degree in music and worship. She also received her multiple-subject teaching credential at Vanguard University and taught junior high school for three years.

She said she is very excited about teaching elementary school at Ridgecrest Charter School. She loves the Lord with her whole heart and is so excited to see what God is going to do at First Baptist Church. She has a heart for children and wants to share the love of God with every person she meets.

Prior to moving to Ridgecrest, Pope was senior pastor at Grand View Baptist Church in Grand Terrace.

Pope welcomes the community to join the First Baptist Church congregation for worship on Sundays at 1350 S. Downs St. Sunday school begins at 9 a.m., with services starting at 10:30 a.m.
