Jack L. Kavanagh

Jack L. Kavanagh, 82, of Keokuk, Iowa, died Sunday, June 3, 2018, at the Clark County Nursing Home in Kahoka, Mo., following a brief illness.

He was born May 16, 1936, in Keokuk to Dayle and Irma Rockenbach Kavanagh. He married Marla Collier on October 5, 1958, in Keokuk. His loving wife of 53 years preceded him in death on October 26, 2008.

Jack retired after a combined 45 years in the U.S. Navy, serving in active duty and with the Department of the Navy’s weapons research test and evaluation programs.

He was an avid traveler in his motorhome spending the winters in Southern California. Jack lived each day to be with family and friends and was always looking for the next tennis or pickle ball match.

He is survived by his daughter, Gail Kavanagh of Ridgecrest, his son-in-law, Greg Day of Kuwait, two grandsons, Keith Day and Joshua Day both of Oak Harbor, Wash., a granddaughter, Megan Spano of Apopka, Fla., and several great-grandchildren and cousins.

Jack was also preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Cindra Day.

Graveside services with military rites were held Friday, June 8, at the Keokuk National Cemetery.
