Russian dance master to teach hereSierra Academy of Dance is offering local ballet students a rare opportunity to study with Russian Dance Master Alexey Kulpin when he comes to Ridgecrest next week.

Courses offered include Advanced Ballet on Monday, June 18, from 4;30-6 p.m.; Character Dance on Tuesday, June 19, from 3-4 p.m.; and Intermediate Ballet on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m.

Kulpin holds degrees in ballet methodology and choreography from the University of Culture and Art, St. Petersburg, Russia. He specializes in classical ballet and character dance. He has held positions in ballet companies in Russia, Israel and the United States, including City Ballet of San Diego, Grand Rapids Ballet and Charleston Ballet Theater.

His featured roles include Basilio in “Don Quixote,” James in “Les Sylphides,” Prince Ivan in “Firebird,” Spirit of the Rose in “Le Spectre de la Rose,” Swan Lake pas de trois and leads in “Tarentell” and Maurice Bejart’s “Trik Trak.”

All classes will be held at Sierra Academy, 1008 Kyle Ct. Cost is $10 per studio student and $20 per member of the public.
