On May 15, during a ceremony at China Lake, Rear Adm. Scott Dillon, Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division commander, presented Lt. Thomas McGee with a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, marking the end of McGee’s two-year tour as the NAWCWD commander’s flag aide.

“Flag aide jobs have been known to be particularly difficult and challenging,” Dillon said. “They are jobs that are known to require persistence, dedication and a high level of attention to detail. From everything I’d heard from Rear Adm. Brian Corey before me to my time settling into this job, you have had those qualities figured out since the first day you showed up at the office. I wish you all the best.”

Since his tour began in December 2016, McGee has “demonstrated inspiring leadership and personal initiative in managing the commander’s extremely dynamic and demanding schedule,” his citation noted.

McGee organized and executed 500 high-level meetings, 57 flag trips and 33 site visits including those from the chief of naval operations and the commander of the Naval Air Forces.

“I’m definitely sad to go,” said McGee, who is moving on to support the Air National Guard. “Everyone has been great to work with. I look forward to the future, but I’ll miss everyone here.”
