Kenneth M. Caraway

Kenneth M. CarawayKenneth Mack Caraway passed away May 18, 2018, at USC Keck Medical Hospital after fighting a lung infection.

Ken was born February 1942 in Jonesboro, La., to Arthur and Alice Caraway. He lived in Jonesboro until completion of high school. After graduation he entered the United States Air Force and was selected for the USAF Honor Guard stationed at Boiling AFB in Washington, D.C. While there he met and married his loved wife Louise.

After his service in the military, he worked for Jerry Walman Construction in Washington, D.C. Ken then moved his family to Trona in 1967 to work for American Potash and Chemical Corporation, now known as Searles Valley Minerals. In the mid ’70s he went into business with Jim Hunter, as Ke-Ja Construction and then in the early ’80s formed his own business known today as Caraway Construction.

Ken enjoyed hunting trips to Montana for elk and moose and fishing trips with friends and family in the Sierra. Ken has been a longtime member of Trona Elks, Lions Club, Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rites in Bakersfield. He enjoyed participating in the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and watching his LSU teams on TV.

Ken was a compassionate, generous and gentle man who truly loved his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Louise; sons James (Lisa) and Scott (Piya); daughters, Dale (Joe), Kathleen (Steve), Michaelle (Larry) and Patty (Gary); grandchildren Patrick, (Sanisa), Adam, Anthony (Sherry), Dan (Dawn), Angie (Andy), Amy, Erin, Jenny, Jamie, Corrie (Darik), Amber, Rainee and Jackson; 17 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; uncle Johnny Ed (Janet); cousins Richard (Joy), Brenda, Mary Jean, Mike (Janet), David (Brenda), Ann, Lisa, Kevin and Scott.

He was preceded in death by John Mack and Charles Ray.

Services will be held Saturday, June 9, at 11 a.m. at Crossroads Community Church. Interment will be held at Bakersfield National Cemetery.
