Local bands will perform Saturday, May 19, at Furys Sports Bar from 6 p.m. to closing to help raise money to bring the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall to Ridgecrest June 28 through July 2.

Psychedelic punk band “The Duendes” will opepn the show, followed by metal-rock band “Six Feet Over” trading sets with Irish rock band “The Sheleighlys” throughout the night.

“This is a beautiful structure for all of the generations to experience — for those who lost loved ones, and especially for youth who have little or no knowledge of the price of the Vietnam War.” Luke Smith, manager of Furys, said about the traveling memorial.

When Carol Coy of the Ridgecrest Veterans Advisory Council requested the Sheleighlys perform, all members quickly jumped on board. “It is an unspoken rule among band members that if the Sheleighlys can support a veteran or military event, they will,” said a spokesperson.

“In a town like this we all know people who were in Vietnam,” said lead singer Joshua Neild. “It is good for the community to raise money for important events like the Traveling Wall.”

Six Feet Over, an all-veteran band, said that performing in this concert is personal for them. “Anything that shows respect for veterans is important,” said Brian Holm, lead guitarist. The band thanked the RVAC and the Sheleighlys for the opportunity, and said they hope to pack Furys Sports Bar and make this the concert people talk about all year.

The event is for ages 21 and older and includes live music, games of chance, drink specials and more. Tickets are $3 in advance and $5 at the door.
