Melvin R. Martin

Melvin R. MartinMelvin Reed Martin was born June 1, 1922, in Asotin, Wash., and passed peacefully at home, after a brief battle with cancer, on April 16, 2018. He was 95 years young and ready to go home.

Mel retired from the U.S. Navy in 1962 and came to Naval Weapons Center Public Works in 1964 as a rigger. He retired from Public Works as a maintenance general foreman in 1978.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, Westley G. and Edith C. Martin; his sons, Melvin W. and Steven Roy Martin; his seven brothers, Rodney P., Wilbur L., William W., DeForest, Lester L., Chester L., Orville H. Martin; and his two sisters, Lillian M. Nelson and Alice V. Hollenbeck.

Mel is survived by his wife, Ernestine (Ernie) Martin; his daughter, Shelley D. Weaver (Richard); his only surviving sibling, Edith M. Taylor of Washington; daughters-in-law Pamela and Gennie Martin; and five grandchildren, Rachel D. Dizon, Michael L. Martin (Jessica), Karrie Reckner (Michael), Stephanie A. Roy (Jeffery) and Schyler D. Weaver: plus 13 great-grandchildren.

We would also like to thank all of the multiple nieces and nephews that kept in touch with Melvin in his latter years.

A celebration of life will be held Tuesday, May 22, at 11 a.m., at Crossroads Community Church. A reception will follow.
