Ridgecrest police officers arrested a suspected car thief and recovered a Mazda hatchback reported stolen on Monday, May 7.

According to an RPD press release, officers located the vehicle Monday and recognized the driver as Tommy Sigala, 23. When officers attempted a traffic stop, Sigala fled the scene, the report said.

Sigala was reportedly sighted in the La Mirage neighborhood, and officers canvased the area. They later located the suspect and the abandoned vehicle. Sigala was arrested and transported to the Bakersfield Central Receiving Facility.

Sigala is facing felony theft and vandalism charges and a misdemeanor charge for possessing burglary tools. His bail is set at $15,000. His prepreliminary hearing and bail review are scheduled for May 15 at 10:30 a.m. in Ridgecrest.
