Phillip Lopez

Phillip Lopez, known as “Phil” to friends and family, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the age of 84 on Sunday, April 1, 2018, in Las Vegas, Nev. Phil was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was the rock of the family and will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Services were on April 21 at the Searles Valley Cemetery, Trona.

Phil was born in Los Angeles on April 14, 1933, and was the second of 10 children. His family moved to Trona in 1948.

Phil joined the National Guard at age 17 and was inducted into the Army during the Korean War, serving from 1951-1953. Upon returning from Korea, Phil made Trona his home and began working for American Potash & Chemical Corporation as a mechanist. He continued working there up to retirement after 50 years.

Phil and Arlyne met in Trona and raised their family. Phil was a dedicated member of the community, combining his craftsman skills and his love for golf to assist with building and maintaining the Trona Golf Course at Valley Wells until his passing.

Phil is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Arlyne Lopez, and their three children, son Bob Lopez and wife Carolyn, daughter Susan Stanton and husband Tyrone, and daughter Terri Cracraft and husband Val. He will be forever remembered by his siblings, Louie Lopez, Ruth Haggen, Andy Lopez, Ruben Lopez, Olga Moll and Daniel Lopez, as well as his nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Phil is predeceased by parents Andrew and Evangeline Lopez, and sisters Andrea Lopez, Gloria Lopez and Martha Bowles.
