Digital marketing workshop coming here

IWV Economic Development Corporation will help bring a series of digital marketing workshops to the valley, starting May 10.

Partnering with the IWVEDC to present the workshops will be staff of the Eastern Sierra Connect Regional Broadband Consortium, which received a grant from the California Advanced Services Fund administered through the California Public Utilities Commission to provide educational opportunities to communities throughout Eastern Kern County.

“Internet-based digital marketing is here to stay,” said a spokesperson. “The workshops will provide the needed tools to promote business growth and put into practice proven marketing strategies.” Workshops will be held May 10, 17, 24, 25 and 31 in the community room of Desert Valleys Federal Credit Union. The workshops will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1-4 p.m.

“We are really excited about this long-awaited opportunity for businesses in the Indian Wells Valley,” said Rebecca McCourt of the IWVEDC. “The series of workshops provides proven marketing strategies using social media to increase business regardless of the product or service.”

McCourt said that Christie Osborne, a presenter at the Broadband Summit held here in 2015, will serve as workshop facilitator.

Osborne offers marketing consulting services through the Small Business Development Center at CSUB and her Company Mountainside Media. “Her experience in working in rural, less populated communities and the challenges we face, gives her a perspective that other marketing experts sometimes lack,” said McCourt.

“Every business in the Indian Wells Valley can and will benefit from the digital marketing workshops. I urge you to take advantage of this rare opportunity available to us all.”

The cost to business operators is $100 for the series. Desert Valleys is donating classroom space, and ESCRBC is heavily subsidizing the cost, thanks to the grant.
