Robert Allen ‘Al’ Boyack

Robert A. “Al” Boyack passed away peacefully on April 8, 2018, in San Diego, following a massive hemorrhagic stroke. Al was born in Atchison, Kan., to parents Bob and Edna Boyack on March 8, 1928.

He is survived by wife of 69 years, Darlene Boyack; daughter Diane Kirschenman (Ken); brother Herbert (Dean) Boyack (Doris); grandchildren: Jeff Kirschenman (Cherie), Jenna Kirschenman, Brad Erickson (Mer), Kevin Erickson (Denise) and Doug Erickson; and great-grandchildren Bailey, Cejaye, Kaysen, Kevin (Oksana), Paxton, Cody, Aubri, Fiona and Garrett.

Al is predeceased by his daughter Jean Erickson, sister Donna Hicks, and parents Bob and Edna Boyack.

Al and Darlene met and lived in China Lake-Ridgecrest for 71 years. They have lived in the San Diego area, close to their daughters, for the last two years.

Al worked on the China Lake naval base for 61 years and retired in 2006. He enjoyed his jobs as locksmith, machinist/model-maker and photographer.

His hobbies and recreational activities, from which he got many hours of enjoyment, included photographing weddings, bicycling and exercising at “cardiac rehab.” In his younger years, he enjoyed waterskiing and racing jalopies. Al and Darlene had been longtime members of Grace Lutheran Church.

Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life for Al at his daughter Diane Kirschenman’s home, 2299 Hillslake Dr., El Cajon, on Saturday, April 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
