RPD implements online alerts

RPD implements online alertsRIDGECREST POLICE DEPARTMENT — The RPD has partnered with Nixle to implement its Community Notification System to alert residents in real time for localized emergency situations and relevant community advisories.

Residents have several simple ways to register:

1. Text RIDGECRESTPD to 888777 from your mobile phone

2. Go to www.ridgecrest-ca.gov and sign up via the Nixle Widget. The Nixle Widget is on the Police Department webpage. Go to the “Departments” tab and click on “Police.”

Once registered, residents will receive confirmation texts to their mobile devices.

A resident may also customize an alert setting by going to nixle.com and creating a user profile.

All alerts will be targeted geographically, allowing residents to receive localized, relevant alerts from the Ridgecrest Police Department. Nixle Alerts can be received via text, email and the web.

The Ridgecrest Police Department will also rebroadcast (forward) alerts from the National Weather Service. Users will receive alerts and advisories of weather and

other geographic-related issues.

In the next few months, the city of Ridgecrest will expand the use of the Nixle platform to include Parks & Recreation alerts, Family Movie Night alerts and more. These additional categories can be “opted in” at a later time, and instructions will be provide to Nixle users.
