“Come with me and you’ll be in a world of pure imagination!”

Ridgecrest Musical Enrichment Society echoes the immortal words of Roald Dahl in an invitation to share in the colorful, musical, poignant production of “Willy Wonka Junior,” which opens Thursday, March 22, at the Parker Performing Arts Center, Burroughs High School.

“This is the same familiar story that many of us grew up with,” said Director Marla Cosner. “It’s fun, it’s fast-paced and has a great message.”

For the third consecutive year, Cosner has broadened the RMES mission (providing quality entertainment and funding for school music programs) to offer local youngsters an opportunity to perform for the community.

“Each year we have had the good fortunate to work with an amazing cast, and it seems like it just gets better with each production,” she said.

For the first time, the “Rising Stars” cast will occupy the Parker PAC — offering more children (and more spectators!) a chance to participate.

“The way these kids are helping bring this story to life has just been incredible to watch,” said Cosner.

“People are going to recognize a lot of the songs made popular in the original movie, plus a few more that we think perfectly capture the tone of the story.”

The cast features Jason Ertl as Wonka, Justin Bal as Charlie Bucket, Gabriel Honeywell as Augustus Gloop, Joe Cannon as Mike Teavee, Tabitha Goodman as Violet Beauregarde and Rachel Wetzel as Veruca Salt — as well as some 80 other children who will portray the supporting roles.

Subsequent performances will be held Friday and Saturday, March 23 and 24.

Curtain is at 7 p.m. Doors open for seating at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are available, starting Friday, March 2, at Red Rock Books.

Admission is $8, with a reduced price of $7 for youth, seniors and military and $6 for members.
