Gerald V. deHam

Gerald V. deHamGerald Vincent deHam, born March 2, 1948, died of cancer on Dec. 29, 2017. He was 69. He is survived by his wife, Jarien; sons Daniel and Ryan; sister Carolyn; and nieces and nephews.

Gerald was born in Denver, Colo., and raised at China Lake. He was drafted in 1969, went to Vietnam in 1971 and married in 1971.

He worked for CalTrans from 1977 until he retired in 2002. During his career, he worked in Santa Barbara, Templeton, Nevada City and San Luis Obispo.

Gerald came to the Central Coast in 1974 with his wife and raised his family in Los Osos, where he lived out his life. He took his family on vacations through the Western states and into Canada. In retirement, he worked on his property in Bandon, Ore., and in Weldon, where he indulged in his passion for operating and maintaining equipment large and small. He was an avid follower of local politics. Gerald felt fortunate to live on the Central Coast, and his family felt fortunate to have him.

A graveside service attended by family and close friends was held at Los Osos Valley Memorial Park on Jan. 12. A reception followed at Los Osos Christian Fellowship. Sign his guestbook at sanluisobispo.com/obituaries.
