Dawn Holmes

Dawn Holmes, 82 years young, went to be with the Lord on Friday, Jan. 19, 2018.

She was born on Nov. 23, 1935, in Kansas City, Mo., to Richard and May Holmes. Her mother saw a movie with a character named Dawn Glory, thought it was a beautiful name and gave the name to her daughter. When World War II began, the family moved to the Southern California coast for jobs in the shipbuilding industry to help with the war effort.

Dawn’s passions were her Lord Jesus, music, poetry, people and God’s wondrous creation. She was very generous and loved to help people. She was always very positive and inspirational. No matter how difficult things might have been in her life at some point, she would always find something good to focus on: “Don’t the mountains look beautiful today!” or “That rose is SUCH a gorgeous color!” When she began to become forgetful, she said, “It’s not so bad — I get surprises every day!” and she threw back her head and laughed that delightful laugh of hers.

She looked forward with great anticipation to going to be with the Lord and seeing her beloved mama, daddy and brother Dickie, who died at an early age due to polio.

She is now looking forward to being joined someday by her dear sister Norma Corral, nieces Dixie, Georgia and Colleen, all of Texas, and nephews Pat and Mike Daugherty of North Dakota and Ridgecrest, as well as many grandnieces and grandnephews.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, Feb. 8, at 1 p.m. in the Rose Garden at Desert Memorial Park, Ridgecrest.
